Paul started Upland Film to approach Documentary Shorts from a grassroots level with a unique personal lens. Both independently and commercially, he has accumulated over 10 years of filmmaking experience, straddling both the East and West coasts, and a lifetime's worth of tales, fables, and familial connections with the people along the way.
Paul’s documentary film “Weekend at Gus’” was awarded a Vimeo Staff Pick and played SF Doc Fest in 2021. With over 42,000 views, the short captures the essence of San Francisco’s oldest bait and tackle shop, Stephanie Ernst, and her relationship with her customers. To this day, Ernst proclaims herself his San Francisco grandma.
A lover of the underdog story, Paul enjoys the camaraderie that filmmaking offers and the opportunity to tell stories about interesting people who are sometimes overlooked.
